Bio & Resume

Joke-teller Alex Grubard grew up in Massachusetts, began his career in New York City and is currently a student enrolled at Temple University in Philadelphia. The city of brotherly love absolutely loves its hilarious college adult.  Alex Grubard is not only a student in college, he is a student of comedy. In an age of minimum wage jobs, high youth unemployment and college loan debt Alex hits upon what everyone experiences: “I don’t have any MONEY.” With his memorable catchphrases, sharp joke technique and absurd character Alex Grubard is a popular and likeable stand-up act. He receives high praise from audiences, comrade comedians and staff at venues including The Comedy Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts, The Creek and The Cave in Queens, New York and Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has performed at festivals including the 2013 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the 2012 Cape Fear Comedy Festival and the 2011 Live Arts and Philly Fringe. Grubard is one of the best young stand-up comics on the East Coast. And his grades are okay.

In 2013 Alex was the winner of LOL at The Grand Opera in Wilmington, Delaware, performed stand-up on mtvU’s “College Quickes,” and co-wrote the sketch show One Hit Wonder which will appear in the 2013 Live Arts & Philly Fringe. 2012 began with Grubard being named one of Philly’s “Comics to Watch in 2012,” “Top Philly Comedians of 2011” and “Top 10 Philly Comedians.” He was a fan favorite during the 2012 Cape Fear Comedy Festival, the 2nd F. Harold Comedy Festival, 2012 Live Arts & Philly Fringe and 2011 1st Person Arts Festival. For the second year in a row Alex made it onto Temple Univeristy team’s starting line-up for the Rooftop National College Comedy Competition sponsored by TBS. In 2010 Alex made it into the Final 4 of Comix Comedy Club’s March Comedy Madness. For one week in September of 2010 Alex’s joke about being a college student with a learning disability was Time Out NY’s “Joke of the Week.” Yeah, of the WEEK. His acting has been seen on Comedy Central’s “Web Shows” and his blogging read on The NY Examiner, CampusPhilly and WTFPlanet.
